With the beauty of a model, moves of a dancer, an
ear for music, and a personality that captures hearts,
Mia Guzman was built to be a performer. In the
beginning it was the music that gave her energy. Now
it’s her control over the music that helps create an
energy she passes along to her audience.
Mia’s first move from dancing in the crowd to
standing behind the tables was initiated by DJ XTC
(Kube 93 FM Seattle). XTC immediately noticed her as
one of the “regulars” in the clubs he would host. He
took the time to teach her the basic skills of crowd
rocking: mixing & blending, song selection and creating
a DJ persona. As luck would have it her beauty took the
limelight and she soon found herself modeling in Los
Angeles.
In Los Angeles Mia’s career moved quickly. Her
bookings got a quick jump start through magazine
appearances. The exposure produced a popularity that
got her a contract for a national import car show circuit
due to her extreme popularity. Introduced to DJ Vice
(Power 106 FM/ Skam Artist) and appearing in his
promo video, gave her an itch for the turntables again.
Mia soon found herself on set with the Black Eyed Peas
for the “Don’t Phunk With My Heart” video. There she
met DJ Rocky Rock (2005 DMC World, Apl.de.Ap's DJ)
on the set. All it took was a conversation about DJ-ing
and she was hooked for good. Mia was then booked to
be one of the girls on MTVs Wild'n Out.
Her debut was a simple 1 hour set at a local club.
She was a complete success. Most recently she wrapped
up a season of MTVs Celebrity Rap Superstar as the
show’s DJ. She’s currently contracted with clothing line
Tokidoki—both modeling and performing. She makes
regular appearances in cities across the States.
DJ Mia has teamed up with apl.de.ap of The Black
Eyed Peas as his exclusive DJ. "Teaming up was a
natural thing for us to do. We share a common
background coming from the Philippines. And, it helps
that our mission in music and culture is similar - we
want to bridge music and culture from the Philippines
and Asia to the world. We make a great team."
